Doug is an excellent tour guide. Our family enjoyed spending the day with him. If you like history, he has wonderful stories to tell. He made Nashville come alive for our family. Before the tour we thought Memphis had a "bourbon street" feel but he added many layers with stories about the music industry, Peabody Hotel, etc. The following day we visited several attractions with a new found interest.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear MS. Maypole, I appreciate your generous words. It is always gratifying to host a nice group of folks who appreciate the history I try to expose here. Please tell your Daughter, Son-in-law (aka friend) and Granddaughter hello for me. Doug

Doug was amazing. I hadn't tipped him off ahead of time, but he hit our sweet spot with his knowledge of the history of Memphis' importance in the history of its music: rock, blues, rockabilly, etc., Elvis was huge and his growing up in Memphis clearly shaped his music, but the blues and country and rock in combination is so amazingly important here. And Doug knew the history and had many great stories. Doug also has referred us to a number of great restaurants and other sights here. Great trip.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Kevin for those kind words. I thoroughly enjoyed being with you folks and discussing the great history and music in this iconic city. Please come back and say hi if you return in the future. Best Regards, Doug

Doug is a Memphis treasure! We were in Memphis for a three day getaway and to see a concert. We decided to spurge and stay at the Peabody and when I read about this Tours by Locals we were quite excited. I have to say that our expectations were high, but Doug's tour exceeded them!!! We were absolutely delighted with all of his stories, making history come alive. He has a gift for telling with expertise, charm, and musical talent when relaying origins of famous lyrics. Loved this tour!!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Many thanks for the kind comments. I thoroughly enjoy being with great people like you who have a great interest in the history and music of this city. Happy New Year! Doug

Doug really went out of his way to adapt his tour to our interests. He was a wealth of information about the Peabody Hotel history and he provided an insiders view of the ducks who reside there. Personable fellow with great stories of the luminaries of both the blues and rock n roll.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: It was a great pleasure to take you on your Memphis tour. Best Wishes! Doug

Doug W. is surely the best guide possible for a Memphis tour. Talk about "local" - he is an expert on the Memphis scene, from the Blues to the Civil War to the Civil Rights Museum. He really made it fun for us to take our first trip to Memphis when we could do it up right for sight-seeing. We asked for the tour he can do just from the top of the Peabody - perfect!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Diana, Thank you Guys so much for the good review. I thoroughly enjoyed working with you and hope to see you back in Memphis in a future visit! Best Wishes Doug W.
A southern gentleman--engaging, charming and knowledgable. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and conversation.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Michael, it was a pleasure to meet you. I appreciate the kind comments. Doug W.

Doug took my party of 6 on a tour of downtown Memphis. Doug started us off at the Peabody Hotel and had fascinating knowledge and great access to the hotel. We then went for a trolley ride around the city and finished off with lunch on Beale Street. Doug was extremely accommodating to our group and was definitely a highlight or our trip to Memphis. I would definitely recommend Doug for your tour needs in Memphis. So much better than a canned speech on a bus!!! Thank you Doug!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: It is a pleasure to accompany visitors with a real interest in the rich music history, river lore and Americana of Memphis, Tennessee. Have a great year ladies and come back.

Doug was fun, interesting and charming, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Memphis, and knew lots of people as we made our way round the tour. We did the full riverside loop on the trolley bus plus took in two roof top views and managed to get to see the famous marching ducks at the Peabody which wasn't actually billed as part of the tour. My 15 year old son loved it too and it was great value (there were just the two of us on the tour so it would be even greater value with more people).
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I read this comment with gratitude and satisfaction because it is a thrill for me to show Downtown Memphis, its music and its history in a way other tours might not. Thanks for the kind comments. Travel safely.

Doug is not only a private walking tour guide, he is also one of the Duckmasters at the Peabody. We had front row seats at the March of the Ducks and then he proceeded to give us a tour of the hotel and the "Duck Palace" on the roof. After the Peabody tour, we walked through the area best known for the Blues and Rock and Roll - it is truly Music City. He also guided us on the local tram that went down to the waterfront. Next day we went to Graceland, which was terrific. On to Nashville.
