The history of the area with a private guide
During the closing days of the Civil War, Sherman led 60, 000 Union soldiers into Raleigh, a town of less than 4000 people. Only one day after the occupation, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. The drama that unfolded from this event is only one of the many interesting stories included on this tour.
From the Confederate Cemetery to the grounds of the State Capitol we'll take a riding and walking tour of sites significant to the War years in Raleigh. We'll see churches that served as hospitals and factories, homes where the human drama of war played out, and statues that commemorate the sadness of the time.

Although I generally prefer walking tours, I can accomodate 4 passengers in my Lexus sedan. The tour can be both a windshield and walking tour. My car is comfortable and air conditioned, but 3 people would need to sit in the back seat.

Parker was fantastic - incredibly interesting and knowledgeable about the Civil War Years in Raleigh and about Raleigh's history generally. She picked us up from our hotel in her comfortable Lexus and we had a fascinating two hours with her. Highly recommend.
