Go where the locals go in Washington, D.C.
Enjoy a scenic, relaxed walk through two of D. C. 's best known historic areas, Georgetown and Dupont Circle. We'll share some rich stories and historic curiosities as we pass by the boundless old architecture from Embassy Row to the center of the old tobacco port of George Town, predecessor of today's Washington. We'll see a number of historic sites, lesser known memorials, parks, gardens, and even a couple of movie locations, before landing at the banks of the historic C&O Canal and Potomac River. This is a great tour day or night.
If desired, I can adjust the tour to extend our reach (and see more sights). The 3-hour tour begins at Dupont Circle and ends at Foggy Bottom or Georgetown, if preferred, where you can browse the shops afterward or linger at one of the many cafes and coffee shops nearby. Or, I can also accompany you on the easy return to Dupont Circle. Feel free to ask for insider tips for local dining, hanging out or cooling off in warmer weather.
We'll begin the tour with a brief introduction to Dupont Circle, then amble past the elegant old mansions of D. C. 's Embassy Row. We'll cross Rock Creek on the photogenic Buffalo Bridge and continue along quieter streets past much 18th and 19th century architecture. We'll check out a number of Georgetown's historic sites, and talk a little about the town's early African American community and the end of slavery in D. C. We'll see some lesser known memorials and the homes of important figures in American history, as well as parks and gardens, and even a couple of movie locations. We'll aim for M. Street to walk a bit of Georgetown's main drag, then dip down to the historic C&O Canal, followed by a short stroll to Waterfront Park on the Potomac River. We can either continue to the Foggy Bottom Metro Station, or you can opt to linger in Georgetown to browse the shops or enjoy a meal. Or, we can make the easy return to Dupont Circle, as desired. Note that the tour can be modified to suit your interests.
