Visit the Hill Fort and explore Bhaja Cave
Lohagad (iron fort) is one of the many hill forts of Maharashtra state in India. Situated close to the hill station Lonavala and 52 km northwest of Pune. Lohagad is part of the Western Ghats. It rises to an elevation of 1, 033 m (3, 389 ft) above sea level. People can also hike all the way to the fort. Bhaja Caves is on the way to Lohagad.
Bhaja Cave is about 59 km from Pune. These Buddhist caves are in Hinayan style, date almost to the 2nd century BC and are believed to be one of the oldest buddhist religious centres in this area. There are 18 rock cut caves. . . . Viharas and Chaitya.
We drive down 59km to Bhaje caves. Climb about 100 steps to see Buddhist caves.
Then we drive for 10 km and arrive at Lohagad-a fort on a hill. We have to treak for 45 minutes to reach the top of a fort and explore the fort.
