I'm a passionate and dedicated life-long learner fascinated by the natural world and our species relationship with it. The principles of sustainable travel and tourism inform everything I do as a guide.
I specialize in creating personalized tour and travel experiences for inquiring minds that like to have fun while learning. My approach is simple and direct. I begin by getting to know my clients. I ask questions and listen carefully to what they tell me about what they would most want from their travel experience. I then engage them in the process of co-creating what that experience will look and feel like. My goal is to help them create a transformative experience for themselves.
I offer an uncommon breadth and depth of expertise that spans many disciplines and skill sets gained over a 40+ year career. Natural history interpreter, parks and outdoor recreation consultant, university instructor, freelance journalist and author, radio and television host, documentary producer and director and strategic leader and manager of a national ocean science education program are a few of the roles I've filled.
Over the past three years, I've led trips for Canadian and American travel companies taking their guests in groups of 25 - 35 to such places as the four mountain national parks (Banff, Jasper, Yoho and Kooteny), Haida Gwaii and Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, the Yukon and North West Territories (including the Arctic), Great Bear Rainforest, and Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
I also serve as a step-on guide for bus tours run by several local retirement residences. Having lived, worked, studied and played in Victoria for more than 35 years, I know it very well.
Additionally, I'm a director of the Wilderness Tourism Association of BC and the Victoria Natural History Society, an advisor to the board of the Friends of Shoal Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary and professional member of the Canadian Tour Guides Association.
