Kid Friendly: Yes. This is not a kids' tour, but kids that like to explore new areas of town should be fine. There could be some kids' highlights though, including a big play ground, some nice street art, and good ice-cream...

Friendly: Yes.
Most of the tour is outdoors and on flat terrain, so if you don't mind the absence of a car, it should be fine with a wheel chair. Briefly looking into some of the venues we pass on the way can be a little difficult though due to steps up or down.

Join me for a personal tour of my favorite area of Copenhagen

From Copenhagen's Red light Cistrict to the fourth most hipster neighborhood in the world!

Vesterbro is the area where the central station in Copenhagen is. However, most people leave with the impression that it is all about Tivoli, hotels - and the red light district! But beyond that, there is a thriving community of students, artists and everyday people with small galleries, independent design stores, a renovated Meat packing district and a wealth of nice cafés. And hipsters (recently crowned as the fourth most hipster area in the world by Thrillist).

At this tour, we will explore the modern area of Vesterbro with an emphasis on the modern city life and inspiration on out-of-the-common places to go for cafées, dinner or shopping.

Itinerary

• Diversity of people - learn about the diverse people of Vesterbro - from students, immigrants, artists, drug users, prostitutes to hipsters, alternative families to the gentrified.
• Pocket parks
• Istedgade, the "soul" of the Vesterbro
• Boutique cafés, ice cream parlours and microbreweries
• Street art
• City renovation transforming Vesterbro from poor to exclusive housing
• My back yard featuring alternative energy sources, waste sorting, a lot of bikes - and Danish "hygge"
• Meat packing district
• Optional visit to Tivoli (with one entrance included) at the end of the tour

Vesterbro naturally changes with the time of week: on weekdays and Saturdays, from 11, we'll pass interesting boutique design stores and galleries for those interested in shopping (book from 10 and ending latest at 17). In the weekends from April through September, we'll be able to participate in the big food market in the Meat packing district.

Meeting Location + Tour Duration

Meeting location: Fastest way to start the tour: Vesterbros Torv, by the fountain.
Otherwise, I can also pick you up at your hotel or where you will be.

End location: To be agreed upon. You could either stay in Vesterbro to explore some of the cafés or restaurants on the printed guide I am going to give you (and that we pass), we could end by Tivoli - or I take you back to your hotel.

Duration: 3 hours

This tour can be shortened if you like (lower price), or made longer if you like to include lunch or dinner or just have more time (higher price).

Transportation

Vesterbro is best explored by foot, so this is a walking tour, but at your own pace.

What’s Included

The guide's 20 years of experience living on Vesterbro, from a shared student flat without proper heating to city renovated apartments
A printed, personal guide to the - in the guide's opinion - best cafés, restaurants and bars ready to explore after the tour
A personal guide on "suggestions on what to do after a tour with me"!
If the tour ends in Tivoli: free entry for one person in the group.

Estimated Local Cash Needed

100 dkk - You don't really need any local cash as all things can be paid for by international credit cards (Visa, Mastercard but not always American Express), or worst case, I pay and you pay me back in your currency.

What’s Extra

You don't really need extra payment, but if you would like a Danish ice cream, a take away coffee with the hipsters at the "Coffee & Vinyl"- or some other thing on the way, that would be extra.
Entry to Tivoli if you like our tour to finish there

A Recent Review of this tour

Jens is a fantastic guide. I liked him already from our correspondence, he was professional and answered emails quickly, helping us make decisions about restaurant reservations for after the tour and helping us pick the right tour for our group. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and accommodating-our tour was on a cold day and we wanted explanations in a cafe, so he found us one and continued the tour inside. Also we saw places off the beaten path that we wouldn't have seen on our own.
