One of the most fascinating and authentic plantation tours available to tourist. Located just 45 minutes from New Orleans, is the Whitney Plantation. Once a working sugarcane plantation owned by one of the wealthiest families in the area, The Haydel Family. Located on the premises are original slave cabins, once occupied by slaves. Also on the grounds there is an original structure once used to jail several slaves. There are monuments dedicated to slaves who once worked and lived on the plantation, and a church where the slave were allowed to worship.
The tour begins with a forty-five minute drive to the Whitney Plantation. Upon arrival, tourist will be guided through the grounds of the plantation by a docent of the plantation for approximately one and a half hours. Browse the gift shop for souvenirs and books.
