Kilkenny Castle and Jerpoint Glass Studio
This is a unique combination tour. First visit Medieval Kilkenny Castle dating from 1290. Kilkenny castle is one of the largest and most important castles in Ireland's history dating from as far back as the first decade of the thirteenth century. The castle was built on a raised plateau dominating the town of Kilkenny and a fording point in the river there. Originally built by William Marshal, 4th Earl of Pembroke, it became home to the powerful Butler Family, also Normans in origin who dominated much of the South East of Ireland for six hundred years from this stronghold. The Castle has been faithfully restored and is a glimpse into life of the times.
Then we go to Jerpoint Glass Studio home to the magic of mouth blown hand made and finished glassware. Not only will you watch the highly skillful and ancient art of producing beautiful pieces but you will actually blow and fashion your own artifact to take home. An amazing souvenir of an incredible experience!
