A hodgepodge of every kind, regardless of age, gender or nationality.
Osu area has been developed as a temple town of Osu Kannon temple for centuries. Since then, this area has been a center of the city but gone through several ups and downs during a long history.
Adjacent to the temple ground, there is a huge roofed shopping arcade with more than 1, 000 stores in all kinds and sizes that make this area attractive to visitors. It's like a hodgepodge of every kind such as food stands, local cuisine, secondhand as well as brand new clothes including kimono, computer devices, lavish jewelry, cameras, watches, bags and a mecca of manga geek and all sorts.
It used to be a popular spot for seniors to visit the temples and shrines on this ground but now it also attracts younger generations as well.
Let's visit the Osu Kannon Temple first and feel the spiritual atmosphere. Then, let's explore some interesting stores. You can also try some local food from several food stands while walking.
You will run into a flea mark on the 18th or the 28th of every month on the temple ground.
I can start the tour any time upon request.
Please note that not all but some part of shops are closed on Wednesday. Yet you can enjoy the atmosphere.
I can start the tour in the morning if you are interested in an antique market which falls on the 18th and 28th every month.

Mikari took me to several shrines- some old & stately, others small & tucked away on side streets, one modern with LED banners. I saw young girls touch the head of a carved rabbit, the temple guardian, for help in finding a husband. Learn the proper way to respectfully enter an unusual 3-tori gate. Pull the rope, sound the gong, summon the god, say a prayer! Then we shopped in the arcade, bought snacks, saw vintage kimonos & went to the 100 yen store. Thank you, Mikari, for a fun & interesting morning!
