Compact 4-5 hour tour, covering all the essentials - Off the beaten path
This trip to the countryside is carefully designed to provide a truly unique and authentic experience of the Dutch landscape. It is designed to avoid mass tourism, to show the places a local would know.
We will travel by car using narrow roads around the embankments of a former island, lakes surrounding this island have been reclaimed in the early 17th century to become our oldest polders.
We will visit a beautifully restored windmill.
After passing several small historical villages we make a stop at de Rijp
De Rijp is probably the most picturesque village in the north of Holland with its characteristic town hall, wooden bridge and wooden houses typical for the region.
On our way back to Amsterdam, I will take you to the bottom of the oldest polder "the Beemster" this polder is inscribed on the Unesco world heritage list.
This tour is also suitable as a lay-over tour, pick up and drop off at the airport or cruiseport are included.
*In the winterseason we will visit the windmill village Zaanse Schans
Will we travel using a narrow dyke road, passing several neat villages to the Schermer molen.
In the windmill you can take your time to explore the living quarters of the mill and its inner workings, a miller is usually present to answer any questions.
Next is a stop at the picturesque village de Rijp, with its characteristic houses and wooden bridge. Time for a stroll and a lunch or coffee break.
Drive trough the oldest polder the Beemster on our way back to Amsterdam
(In the flower season April and May, the Beemster is beautiful colored with flower fields)
** During the summer season it is possible to add a wonderfull trip with a small electric boat through the polders for an additional charge of 150 euro. You may drive the boat yourself and I will prepare some extra refreshments and snacks to take with you on the boat. Extra time added is 2-2. 5 hours.
