Die by fire, reborn from ashes

Like the legendary bird, Tsfat, a small town on a mountain-top in the upper Galilee, had also died by fire and was reborn from the ashes, many times throughout its history.

For Jews, Tsfat is one of the four holy cities. It's also the highest city in the Holy Land, nesting in the dense pine forests of the Upper Galilee, overlooking the Sea of Galilee, and is a delicious blend of ancient grandeur and modern-day resort

Said to have been founded by a son of Noah after the Great Flood, the city was conquered and reconquered, changed hands, but remained inhabited throughout it all. Tsfat survived, as vibrant and mystical as ever.
Today Tsfat, and especially its Old City, is a tourist hotspot.

from 16th century narrow alleys, of the Spanish Jews who settled here after 1492 expulsion, and brought Kabballah to its peak, thruogh 19th cent. Hassidic streets, to early 20th century buildings on today's main street, once the moat of the crusaders' castle, Tsfat offers ethnic atmosphere.
A jump back to the past.
