Chauffeured tour out of London to the homes of Sir Winston Churchill, Charles Darwin and Mahjong
You are met at your hotel or apartment for a day tour out of London by chauffeured car to scientist Charles Darwin's house, to Sir Winston Churchill's Chartwell and thirdly to Eltham Palace who's famous residents have included King Henry VIII, multi millionaires and their pet Mahjong the lemur and most recently the interior has appeared in The Crown series.
We drive into the Kent countryside to Down House, Charles Darwin's family home where we explore the house. The Old Study contains original furniture and Darwin's possessions, including some dating from his time on HMS Beagle.
The exhibition covers Darwin's life an his controversial scientific work including manuscript pages from the 'Origin of Species'; Darwin's hat, microscope and notebooks; and a copy of 'Das Kapital' inscribed to him by Karl Marx.
We drive on to Chartwell with it's beautiful views over the Kent Weald. It was here that Churchill and his wife Clementine brought up their family. Today the house is as it was when the family lived here - evoking an insight into the private life of the great man.
There is time for a pub lunch if you wish and our final visit to the former home of the Courtauld family - Eltham Palace, a medieval great hall frequented by King Henry VIII, now with an art deco extension. It shouldn't work, but it does, magnificently!
