Discover the sights of Martinique's capital
Have an insight into the history of Fort-de-France by visiting the most outstanding spots in the center: The Saint-Louis Cathedral, La Savane - park, The Schoelcher library, The old courthouse, the central market, the old townhall, the statue of Joséphine de Beauharnais… In the same time learning a lot about Martinique, its history and culture.
Tour includes a sugarcane juice tasting at a local shop.
PLEASE NOTE: Tour better to be done in the morning/early afternoon as many monuments and the central market close quite early. The cathedral closes at 11. 30 am, the central market at 3 pm. On Sundays several monuments are closed.
The downtown area contains four principal streets and many small perpendicular streets. Its latitude from the first main street to the last one is about 600 yards. So, mainly remaining in downtown will not make us walk a lot. There again, we will even more use almost every shady place to stop and have a chat about surrounding buildings, sights and not at least about your impressions. . .
The itinerary here is flexible. I do invite you to let me know if you have special wishes or things to buy (e. g. pharmacy, souvenirs, liquors…)
Please take a look at the uploaded map of Fort-de-France central area to have an idea about the sights' localisation.
Rainy weather is not a reason for cancellation - I will do my best to let you know about particular weather forecast.

We (a group of 10 Americans) asked Maria to provide a walking tour of the historic downtown area combined with transportation to Jardin de Balata to tour the garden and have lunch at Restaurant La Luciole. Simply stated, she did a fabulous job. Her "American" English is very good, but perhaps more important was here ability to easily connect with everyone in the group. She provided factual information about Martinique as well as insights into what it is like to live there. Everyone had a great time!
