For all Berlin visitors who would like to explore around Potsdam and Sanssouci.
The German Railways regional trains offer trips to Potsdam City every 30 minutes, and the journey lasts just 30 minutes.
The historical Old Town of Potsdam can be crossed comfortably by foot on the way to the garden Sanssouci.
The huge expansion of the Sanssouci garden landscape offers numerous historical buildings, between them a relaxed walk can be arranged. (I'm the owner of a valid Sanssouci Garden Tour License). For example, we can visit the Chinese teahouse (18th century), big orangery (1850), Dragon's House (18th century, with restaurant), Belvedere on the Klaus's mountain (18th century), New Palace (1765), castle Charlottenhof (1840).
At the far end of the garden, there is a bus stop which brings us back to the central station Potsdam.
We take the train from Berlin to Potsdam. Then we visit the historic inner city of Potsdam. From there we walk into the marvellous Park of Palace Sanssouci with his several hotspots.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: The easiest way would be at your hotel or Appartment adress in town.
End location: I can drop you back at the train station, or if it's more comfy for you, at a stop near at your place.
Duration: 7 hours
It depends if you wanna get in one or more of the historic buildings in Sanssouci garden. At the -major castles- Sanssouci and New Palais, in summer there is offen a longer waiting row or a explicit next entrance time. If rain gets too unfriendly, we should have a break on our trip.
We will use the regional train from Berlin to Potsdam main station. On the way back a bus towards the main station. (Its all included in a day ticket)
Don't forget your camera for a lot of photos. I will show you one of the nicest places in the central city, where the old 18th century coach and horse stables still exist. And I will acquaint you there with the most well known "local hero" - the coach driver of King Frederic II. And nearby, perhaps of more significance for all American guests, the statue of the Prussian General STEUBEN. (Remember the Steuben-Parade in New York?)
And maybe, out in the Sanssouci garden area, we will meet King Frederic personally...You never know!
Estimated Local Cash Needed
40 Euro - We will need a "Berlin transport company" day ticket to go to Potsdam city (and back). Price €7,50. If you want to visit one (or two) of the historic palaces inside, an entrance ticket costs approximately €12-.
Some beverages and something to eat, maybe €20- at most.
Train ticket (pricing details above)

Gerhard took the time to listen to what we wanted to see and experience then put it together in a logical sequential tour so our time was maximized. His knowledge of Potsdam and in particular the Sanssouci Park is extensive. His anecdotes and historical insights were entertaining. We highly recommend Gerhard as a guide. Thanks for a great day.
