Rum, "the Maine Law," a Riot, and the Craft Beer Boom
This three-and-a-half hour customizable tour starts at your hotel, or an agreed-upon spot, and introduces you to some reasons Portland is one of the top cities in the world for craft beer fans. We'll point out brewpubs and craft beer bars in the Old Port on our way to Washington Avenue and East Bayside where tasting rooms abound. Beer, mead, wine, and spirits are all available.
Beginning on the waterfront or at your downtown hotel, the tour will proceed past sites associated with Portland's distilling and trade history, hit spots associated with the infamous "Rum Riot, " prohibition, the 1775 burning of Falmouth, and Portland's dissolute and darker side. Heading into East Bayside we'll quench our thirst at some of the many tasting rooms in the area before concluding at an agreed-upon end point.
