Art, shopping and tasty delicacies in Pordenone old town
Just about one hour from Venice, Pordenone is a lively town of about 50, 000 inhabitants in the south west of Friuli.
Its highlight is the beautiful historical centre that stretches along a main street on the top of a small hill close to a river. It was once known as "urbs picta" (latin for painted city) and as a matter of fact you can still admire elegant medieval palaces, many of which have preserved their original frescoes. The town hall and the church with the beautiful campanile can boast almost 800 hundred years of history.
Under the porticoes among the many different shops you can still find some historical ones that have managed to survive the recent economical crisis and still offer top quality classical style Italian clothes.
Last but not least a wide variety of Italian style bars where you can stop for an aperitivo, a taste of San Daniele ham or a delicious chocolate treat.
The Adam and Eve Bridge on the river Noncello, St. Mark's cathedral, the Town Hall, the frescoed palaces along the main street, stop at a local bar for aperitivo or coffee and pastry.
