Orange, nicknamed the City of Princes, is a crossing point for the north, Spain or Italy, in the heart of a rich agricultural region, makes it a prime location for the Romans from which finds many vestiges, mainly around the Saint-Eutrope hill and the old theater.
The Pont du Gard is a Roman aqueduct with three levels probably built in the first half of the 1st century, it ensured the continuity of the Roman aqueduct who drove water from Uzès to Nîmes. According to the latest research, it would have ceased to be used at the beginning of the sixth century.
Nîmes was an important outpost during the Roman Empire.
It is known for its well-preserved monuments, such as the Nîmes Arena, a two-storey amphitheater built around AD 70, still in use for concerts and bullfights.
