Explore the European capital of culture 2019
One of my favourite sites in Bulgaria is Plovdiv.
The second largest city in Bulgaria, Plovdiv is famous for its beautiful old town, Roman ruins and cobblestone streets. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe. The beginning of its history dates back to 4, 000 years BC.
We will explore the Old town with the Roman ruins, the cobblestone streets and the Kapana art area. Kapana means 'trap' because it is so easy to get lost in the small streets with the bars and small shops. In the old town, some of the beautiful houses today are museums.
In the afternoon we will visit Bachkovo monastery, the second largest Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria.
I could customize Plovdiv tour with a visit to Staro Zhelezare street art village or with a visit and wine tasting at a local winery. Other options are the Red church near Perushtitsa or The monument of three generations in Perushtitsa. It depends on your interests.
The time is flexible if you want to have more time at some museum or at lunch.
Pick up in the morning from your accommodation in Plovdiv or in Sofia.

Optional visit to the Roman theater, St. Constantine and Elena church, the Ethnographic museum and more. Panorama view of Plovdiv.
Free time for an optional lunch.
A walk and free time for shopping in the Kapana art area. You can taste some local beer or enjoy a cup of coffee in art atmosphere.
