Visit the European capital of culture for 2019
One of my favorite sites in Bulgaria is Plovdiv. Let me show it to you in a one day tour from Sofia.
The second biggest city in Bulgaria, Plovdiv, is famous for its beautiful old town, the Roman ruins and its cats. So let us escape from Sofia for one day and visit together Plovdiv. The European capital of culture for 2019 will make you wish to stay longer.
Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe. The beginning of its history dates back to 4, 000 years BC. We will explore the Old town with the Roman ruins and the Kapana art area. Kapana means trap because it is so easy to get lost in the small streets with the bars and small shops. In the old town, some of the beautiful houses today are museums. While walking on the cobble-stoned streets, we will see some of them.
We can customize the tour to Plovdiv with a visit to Bachkovo monastery or wine tasting at a local winery in the area. Other options are a visit to the Red church near Perushtitsa or going to The monument of three generations in Perushtitsa.
The time is flexible if you want to have a longer time at some museum or at lunch.
