Half-day guided tour to visit one of the grandest palaces in Europe
Versailles is kind of an enigma. . . Why would king Louis the 14th who already had an amazing palace in Paris decide to move to a place surrounded by woods, marshes, in a word, to the most unpleasant place you could imagine? Historians still argue about the reasons. On one thing they all agree, Louis created one of the most amazing palaces ever built.
To visit Versailles is to go back to 17th and 18th century France and understand more of the french history and identity. You'll learn more about the kings and the queens, especially Louis the 14th and Marie-Antoinette and we'll try to understand why the French Revolution put an end to the Ancien Regime.
We'll meet in Paris (your hotel or Orsay train station) to head to Versailles with public transportation, 20 km to he west of Paris (50 min from the centre of Paris). I can arrange a private driver instead of public transportation with additional cost.
We'll see both the beautiful gardens of Versailles (with the fountains show if you decide to visit on a day when the fountains work) and the amazing palace with the apartments of the king, queen and the hall of mirrors.
The tour can be customized on request. If you want a whole day tour to see the Petit Trianon, feel free to contact me.

A great tour from a knowledgeable and experienced guide. Julien was punctual and took care of all the intricacies of touring Versailles. He was adept at explaining the usage of each room of the palace and guiding us around the gardens. The walk around the gardens was a bit much for me (age 73), so I would recommend hiring the golf club carts to get around the gardens. Julien is very friendly and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend him as your guide.
