The best Greek temples outside Greece
Paestum, also known as Poseidonia (the ancient greek's name), is renowned for its fine complex of Greek temples. Founded by Greeks at the end of the 7th century BC, the town became a Roman colony in 273 BC. The later remains of the Roman town include a forum, houses, baths, and streets. It's Museum, with a significant quantities of pottery, terracotta figurines, architectural and sculptural fragments, and traces of several buildings, is considerend one of the most important in Italy.
This tour is available from Naples, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Salerno. The Archaeological site of Paestum is at a distance of a couple of hours from the destinations mentioned.
This tour includes the visit of the Archaeological park with its imposing Greek temples and the Roman neighborhood. The visit continues into the local Archaeological Museum that preserves precious findings like the famous methopes from the temple of Hera Argiva that are considered the oldest example of religious decoration in the area or the votive gifts used for the worship of the Greek gods. The masterpiece of this collection is the Tomb of the Diver with its exquisite and delicate paintings.
A very relaxing moment will be the visit of a Buffalo Farm, situated not so far from the Archaeological site: you'll meet the semi-wild animals and you'll learn the secrets of producing an excellent milk.
A delicious light lunch with a sample of local Mozzarella will be the cherry on the cake!
