Includes Oxford heritage and Oxford city and university history
See how Hogwart's student life compares with an Oxford education. Be inspired by Oxford, as we visit the world-famous Harry Potter film sites (Divinity School at The Bodleian Library plus New College). The default tour start time will be 12. 30. If you wish to book a different start time, please make that known, when booking & I will confirm what other start time might be possible.
This tour price is aimed at groups of 1-4 persons. If you wish to book the tour for 5 persons or more, that is possible but at a modest additional surcharge. Please ask us to raise an additional customised quote.
This tour visits inside Harry Potter film sites plus we may see other sites or places of interest, which relate to Harry Potter or to other Oxford literary references such as Shakespeare's connections in Oxford, Alice in Wonderland or CS Lewis's 'Narnia' or JRR Tolkien's 'The Lord of The Rings'. In addition, we introduce anecdotes about Oxford university. So while this is a tour for Harry Potter fans, don't worry if not everyone in your group is a Harry Potter fan, as this tour covers wider interests too.
We will look into the making of Harry Potter with stories about people & places & events that inspired JK Rowling, the actors and the directors & producers. So as you can see, 'Muggles' of all ages are welcome on this tour & if you are booking this for children, even better, as this is an interactive tour with some extra devices to entertain children.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: I will meet you OUTSIDE Oxford visitor info centre, 15 Broad street, OX1 3AS.
I will be wearing either a red lanyard or a Hogwarts hat and gown.
End location: The tour usually ends near where we started ie back on Broad street. If you prefer to end someplace else, just let me know on the day & I will either walk you there or give you our free map with directions how to get there.
Duration: 1 hour 30 min.
Tours last 90-120 minutes.
On foot, leisurely walk.
Access permitting, entrance into 2 of the 3 Harry Potter film sites (these are usually New college & the Divinity school at the Bodleian university library).
Notice: on dates of known closures, I will advise you at time of your booking. If New college is closed, we will instead visit Christchurch. If the Divinity school is closed, we will instead visit another college site which is unrelated to the making of Harry Potter.
On any tour, we often also visit inside one of the other university colleges such as eg Exeter college, where JRR Tolkien studied.
Disclaimer: the film sites are located in private institutions & on rare occasions, they can close suddenly without any advance notice (eg if there were a political demonstration going on) but this is very rare. I always check your booking date against the colleges' websites to check for published closures. If I think there might be a problem, I will advise you, as soon as your booking comes in.
On dates that New College is closed, we will instead visit Christchurch. As Christchurch charges an additional £5 more per person than New college charges, on such dates, I may ask you to please contribute £5 extra.
By default, these tours are conducted in English at 12.30 but an earlier or a later tour start time may be possible. If you wish to book a tour conducted in a foreign language, I can usually arrange a colleague to help interpret for a surcharge fee of £40 paid in cash on the day.
