Otaru flourished as a trading port dealing with coal and herring and a port serving Sakhalin's development during the 1920'-1940's. Because of herring fishing, glass-making was a very important industry in Otaru. (Glass was used to make buoys for fishermen. ) First you will visit a glass studio and experience blowing glass to make your own glassware.
After the glass-making experience, you will go to Sakaimachi Street and enjoy strolling freely and taking a look at glass shops, souvenir shops, and many other shops. You can also enjoy a nice seafood restaurant or sushi restaurant.
Strolling the Sakaimachi area, a historical site, you will get a sense of the old days in Otaru.
Otaru has an abundant clean water supply and a cool climate appropriate for making good sake. After lunch I want to take you to the Tanaka sake brewery to see how sake is brewed. Enjoy sake-sampling and appreciating various kinds of Japanese rice wine.

Our Otaru experience with Ms Kaoru was awesome. First time we tried glass blowing and we all fell in love with the activity. She was very accommodating in giving us enough time to enjoy and experience each itinerary like the shiroi koibito Park, otaru fish market, music box factory etc. Domo Arigatou Gozaimasu Kaoru-San.
