A walking tour in Rome's main seaport during the Roman Republic
We'll do together a walk through the Roman ruins in this old town. It can be defined a small little Pompeii, just few kilometers away from Rome. Ostia, was one of the first villages conquered by Rome. Became immediately a river port acquiring a commercial function to supply Rome with food, particularly wheat, even if its defending military function as naval base certainly prevailed.
It will be a fascinating tour through the monumental theater built by the emperor Augustus, the large square in the back with precious mosaics on the floor , the big public thermal baths with an amazing mosaic representing The God Neptune surrounded by fantastic fishes and the original roman street with the ancient cemetery and multi storey apartment blocks with the original stores on the street.
