See the sights and meet the locals in three charming central Florida towns
Long before there was Disney there was central Florida. It was a land of citrus groves, fishing lakes, cattle ranches, and small towns - a place where northern tourists could escape the cold and enjoy a warm welcome.
With your guide leading the way, you'll find this land still exists in three of the area's most charming small towns. You'll visit Winter Garden, Winter Park, and your guide's hometown of Mount Dora - each with walkable downtowns and each with a distinct look and style that attracts visitors from around the world.
In Winter Park you'll visit Park Avenue, an upscale retail district filled with independent merchants, and you may set sail on a Chain of Lakes tour that's been operating since the 1930s. In Winter Garden, a popular recreational trail has brought new life to a shopping district of boutiques, galleries, and sidewalk cafes. Then you'll travel to Mount Dora which is often named one of the nation's finest small towns and features some of Florida's best sunsets on 4, 500-acre Lake Dora.
From your hotel, we'll drive to the heart of upscale Winter Park where brick-paved streets, sidewalk cafés, boutiques, and a beautiful park shaded by ancient oaks will seduce you. We'll explore the campus of historic Rollins College and visit the renowned Cornell Museum of Art. On a tour of Winter Park's chain of lakes, you'll see magnificent mansions on the shores.
Decades ago Winter Garden was a town of citrus groves and fishing camps. Today, a railroad track-turned-recreational trail brings in pedestrians, skaters, and bicyclists whose arrival sparked a retail renaissance. Check out antiques, buy homemade candy, and visit the small, but fascinating, history museum.
The tour concludes in 'The New England of Florida': Mount Dora. Built upon rolling hills and on the edge of a 4, 500-acre lake, the picturesque small town is an active, thriving community known for its festivals, antiques, outdoor recreation, and wildlife. On a sunset cruise chances are you'll see an alligator (and a bald eagle, too).
