The old town of Lyon has been saved by passionate people against the demolition workers in the 1960's. Since then, the quarter has been renovated, so that the visitors are charmed by the striking atmosphere of these cobbled streets. The houses recall us the way of life in the end of Middle Ages, with the influences of Italy.
In the 16th century, Lyon was the new economic capital of Frensh Kingdom. Humanism in Lyon was strong, but this rises had also setbacks. Since then, the inhabitant are very proud of their houses and the typical "Traboules". . . This is the quarter you can't miss in France!
This walking tour starts in front of the metro station "Vieux-Lyon", next to the cathedral Saint John, and will follow in the streets of the quarter. We will go through the dwellings and in the courtyards, and finish next to the Place du Change. We stop at some interesting workshops.
The weather or the time of year (8th december or ceramic market in september) can influence the itinerary.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: The tour begins in front of the metro station Vieux-Lyon, next to the cathedral Saint-John or at your hotel in the city center.
End location: The tour will end on the Place du Change (Change square), on the northern part of the area.
Duration: 2 hours
The cathedral can't be visited on sundays. A lot of shops are closed on mondays.
