A day trip to Novgorod
A trip to Novgorod is a unique opportunity to see ancient Russian town. It differs so much from classical, grand and European St. Petersburg! Novgorod shows you traditional Russia with Kremlin, old churches and monasteries. It's Russia as it was before Peter the Great's reforms. The town has a very rich history. It was the old capital of Russia in the 9 th century, in the 11th it became a center of the huge independent land and in the 15th was conquered by the prince of Moscow.
Tour to Novgorod is also a good chance to see "average" style of life in Russia, that you can't actually find in cities like St. Petersburg or Moscow.

This was a wonderful day trip from St Petersburg. A bit off the beaten path, but we really enjoyed our visit to Novgorod. Irina was a wonderful guide and knows the area very well. We were jet lagged and needed to start the trip later in the day; if you do this tour you should follow Irina's advice and start the tour earlier so as to spend more time in the the wooden village museum. We would definitely rebook with Irina in the future!
