History & Culture in Manhattan's Most Famous Historic District
Greenwich Village is one of the most diverse and beautiful historic districts in the city. On our walk, we'll see how it evolved from a rural village to a progressive, bohemian cultural center in the 1950s and '60s to its preservation and changes today. See the neighborhood's key landmarks-- famous and less so-- as well as the clubs that launched the careers of Bob Dylan and countless others.
Experience a quieter side of Manhattan!
Our tour will begin at historic Washington Square Park, at its iconic arch. Your guide will explain the history of this famous neighborhood, with old photos for reference. See famous 1830s homes, cobblestone alleys, and the campus of NYU. From there, we journey deeper into the Village, seeing both its quiet & leafy residential streets and its busy commercial stretches.
You will see 200 year-old, multi-million homes (perhaps ones you will recognize from TV & film!), historic landmarks, and infamous clubs and cafes. From Macdougal and Bleecker Sts to brownstones to hidden gardens to Stonewall Monument, you will see it all. Fantastic photo opportunities!
Your guide will also take your questions as you walk, and make sure you understand why the Village has captured imaginations for centuries.
All walks are at a reasonable pace.
