Follow a 200-year arc from a swampy, ramshackle town to a world-class city and superb National Mall
On and off the beaten path, we explore the history and beauty of Washington's Old Downtown and the National Mall, including the memorials and monumental architecture that make Washington, D. C. such an incredible place. Walk at an easy, steady pace with great views and brief stops for photos, stories and hidden gems. We can either take it slow and easy, focusing on our fabulous memorials, monuments and historic sites, or pick up the pace to see as many as 130 points of interest--it's up to you!
Standard and custom tours are easily adjusted to fit your interests. Our walking tour lasts three hours and typically begins at the U. S. Navy Memorial on Pennslvania Avenue. The full immersion 6-hour tour explores more of Capitol Hill and Old Downtown. Or consider a "Quaint and Historic" morning tour plus an evening "Monumental" tour for an awesome introduction to Washington, D. C.
Beginning at the edge of the Old Downtown amid fountains, sculptures and alluring architecture, this highly photogenic walking tour catches major sites in Penn Quarter and along Pennsylvania Ave. (America's "Main Street") during the first hour, then shifts over to exploring the National Mall and nearby areas for the balance of the tour. We'll see all the major monuments and memorials, like the Jefferson, FDR, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Lincoln Memorials, as well as the war veterans memorials, Washington Monument, the U. S. Capitol and dozens of other lesser known sights and surprises, including museums, galleries, outdoor sculptures, gardens and historic sites. We can easily adapt the route to meet your main interests, cover more or less distance, if desired, and optimize natural lighting for photography.
