Explore a huge classic car collection - driven in your choice of a vintage car or modern SUV
This tour focusses on a trip to visit my good friend Mr Ian Hope. Meet the man himself and have ample time to enjoy his eccentric and very personal collection of British cars. Ian's premises are a 30-minute drive from Napier through rivers, trees, vineyards and orchards.
Please note this is not a shiny 21st-Century museum. Ian's collection is tightly crammed into an old fruit packhouse that resembles a huge version of a car nut's garage from back in the day. Ian runs the place single-handed and isnt as young as he was, so you will find dust, oil and rust along with all the evocative sights and smells of leather, wood and motor oil as you wander around Ian's collection.
There are more than 450 cars to be seen, and if asked Ian will happily share stories about them all. As well as the cars and commercials, the walls are lined with number plates and lots of other period memorabilia.
Before the scenic drive back to Napier, we will stop to enjoy refreshments at a local cafe.
This is a tour unlike any other - aimed squarely at those with a passion for nostalgia in general and British motoring heritage in particular.
From Napier, I will drive you to meet Ian Hope. Believed to be the largest collection of British cars anywhere in the world, his collection represents a lifetime's passion. Ian has amassed over 450 cars and commercial vehicles (Austin, Bedford, Commer, Ford, Hillman, Jaguar, Morris, Riley, Standard, Vauxhall and many more) with over 38 Morris Minors alone!
Many rows of cars are on display and enthusiasts could easily get lost among the vehicles. Little rounded A30s stare at the sleek lines of Jaguars. There are also Jowetts, Lanchesters, Wolseleys, Sunbeams, Triumphs, Rovers, three hearses and even a 1923 Dennis Fire Engine used by Hastings Fire Service at the time of the Hawkes Bay Earthquake Disaster in 1931.
You will have around 90 minutes to explore it all, then it's off to a local cafe for tea, coffee or cold drinks before we head back to Napier.

We had a terrific day. Paul was an excellent guide, very eloquent and knowledgeable. The museum is more of an eclectic collection but very interesting. We were lucky enough to have Ian Hope, the owner show us around, he is obviously passionate about his cars.
