Do a day-trip from Tokyo on the bullet trains to see the monkeys relax in the hot springs

We meet in JR Nagano Station, a quick 1. 5 hour ride on the bullet trains. You can use your Japan Rail Pass or the JR East Pass (Nagano/Niigata area).
Nagano was the host city of the Winter Olympics back in 1998 so the area is known for the good ski resorts but also for the only monkeys in the world that take a refuge from the cold by taking a dip in the hot springs - just as the Japanese like to do!

***Please inquire for availability first. ***

After meeting, we will change to a bus which will take about 1 hour. Then the final 30 minutes is on foot.

The final portion of the approach will be on foot with some stairs involved as well. During periods of heavy snow or rain, the pathway could get very slippery.

The guide will not accompany you for the round-trip ride from Tokyo. However instructions will be given on which trains to take, any help with finding the right connections.

If you are travelling with large luggage, there are lockers at the JR Nagano Station where you can keep them for the day.

There are occasions when the monkeys do not show up. This tends to happen in the autumn months, October through mid-November so please take into consideration if you are planning to book.
