Private Tour to Mystras
Join me on a private day trip to Mystras in a luxurious air-conditioned vehicle, with free WiFi on board.
Mystras' historical importance is tremendous. In the 14th century Mystrás became the seat of the Despotate of Moreas, whereas in 1448 the last emperor of Byzantium, Constantine XI Palaeologos, was crowned here.
During our trip, you will learn everything about the foundation of the castle town of Mystras, by William Villehardouin the second, in the 12th century AD. For his defeat by the Byzantine emperors and stories of the families of Katakouzenos and Paleologus, who brought Mystras at the peak of its glory in the 13th and 14th century AD. You will be informed about the long history of wars that followed, and the alternation of the conquerors.
This trip is ideal for travelers coming by cruise ships for few hours.
Our journey will start at your hotel / cruise ship port and in less than two hours we will have reached our destination, the castle town of Mystras.
Our first stop for photos will be in Keadas. We will be witnesses of the cliff at which Ancient Spartans were bringing and throwing their newborn sick children.
We'll leave you in the upper gate, along with a brochure for each attraction separately. The route that you will follow is only downhill since we will wait for you at the exit of the lower gate.
You will be wandering around Acropolis of William, which dominates the top of castle town. In narrow streets at which once walked princesses and Byzantine emperors. In museums within the cluttered walls, full with elements of daily life. In monasteries where nuns are still living. In churches where emperors were enthroned.
Join us and feel like the princess or the knight of your childhood fairy tales.

We had a marvelous day! Getting away from the port and other tour groups, we had a comfortable drive through the countryside. We started at the top of the ruins and then walked down to our awaiting guide. We then had a nice lunch in Sparta before returning to the ship. It appears that the cruise ship tours only take people to the bottom of the ruins with half the time to visit and they never got up to the castle or saw the view. So this TBL tour is the way to go. Our guide was helpful and friendly.
