Visit the Benedictine Abbey, discover its amazing history and hike around the trails of Montserrat

This is a half day tour that will bring you to Montserrat, the world famous multi-peaked "sawed mountain"

Montserrat is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat which hosts the famous Black madonna "La Moreneta", the patron saintness of Catalonia. This place is full of history and legends and we will learn about it as we visit the basilica and other parts of the abbey.

This tour include a funicular ride and a soft hike (suitable for everyone) that follows a beautiful path going around the peaks of the mountain. As you pass by, the many natural viewpoints will offer breathtaking 360° panoramic views of the multi-peaked rocky range. You can choose between easy or intermediate hike (if don't want to hike at all, it is possible to visit the art museum instead).
After the pleasant hike we will come back to the Abbey where we will hear the famous "Escolania de Montserrat" boys choir (from Monday to Friday except school holidays, subject to basilica capacity).

Itinerary

After 45 minute drive on a AC Minivan, we will arrive to Montserrat. We will start the day visiting the Benedictine monastery (active since IX century) and discovering its amazing history and legends.
Once we have visited the abbey we will take the funicular up the mountain start a soft hike following a beautiful path around the incredible rock formations of the mountain passing by many natural viewpoints offering unique views over the abbey and the whole province. We will continue to one of my favourite viewpoints, from where we will have breathtaking views of 360 degrees over the multi-peaked rocky range and in clear days we would be able to see the Pyrenees.

After admiring those great landscapes and taking some pictures we will start descending through a shady path between the pinnacle formations and forests of the mountain that will bring us back to the Abbey where we will hear the choir sing the famous Escolania de Montserrat boys choir (from Monday to Friday, except school holidays)

A Recent Review of this tour

Ramon was THE best—he loves the areas outside of Barcelona— the special countryside of Mont Serrat— he's very calm when traffic tie up, knows timing to get seats for boys choir, lent me a helping hand over rough terrain when needed and even provided snack— definitely choose him for nature sites—- his knowledge is impressive
