A scenic trail along Lake Como Eastern shore
The 'Sentiero del Viandante' is a long distance trail that runs along the Eastern shore of Lake Como. It is about 45 km (28 mi. ) long.
This walking tour covers the most spectacular section of this trail, between the villages of Varenna and Dervio (about 12 km/8 mi. long).
The walking tour is technically easy. Good walking shoes are required.
We will take the 8. 20 train from Milan, arriving in Varenna at 9. 23. After a short walk on the village's scenic lakeside promenade (and perhaps a cup of coffee), we will start the walk along our trail, the so-called 'Sentiero del Viandante'. The initial bit is a tad steep, but easy; we will continue to the village of Bellano and beyond, through chestnut forest, meadows and olive trees, to eat our packed lunch at a scenic spot near an old church. Afterwards, we will continue on the trail until the village of Dervio. There are breathtaking views of the lake throughout the walk.
We will return to Milan from Dervio (dep. 15. 54, arriving 17. 40). Total walking time approx. 4. 5 hours, elevation gain/loss approx. 400 meters.
