Exploring the Southern Peloponnese in Three Days

Join me for a three day tour of the Mani Peninsula, a region known for its rugged terrain, vast olive groves, Byzantine churches, castles, and stone hilltop villages. The tour has been carefully designed to offer a balance of cultural and historical sites, wonderful walks, free time on magnificent beaches, and great meals. Originating and ending in my home-town of Kalamata, a town whose name travels quite a bit due to its eponymous olive, the tour takes us around the entire peninsula, with overnight stops in Areopoli and Gytheio, and visits some of the most fascinating sites the region has to offer. Great emphasis is given to our meals. Together we will visit traditional villages and explore the regional cuisine, learn about the herbs and spices used, taste the seasonal fruits and vegetables and drink the local wines and spirits. For further details on how this tour can be modified or extended to meet your needs, feel free to contact me.

The itinerary has been thoroughly planned in order to accommodate all interests and expectations. However, the final schedule will depend on the guest's preferences and will be determined during our correspondence before and after the time of booking.
As one would expect from any trip that takes in the Mani peninsula, the tour visits all the well-known attractions in, and around, Kardamyli, Areopoli, Gytheio and Sparti/Mystra. What makes this tour special, however, are the less-known sites, that are not as accessible or easy to find, and the walks that require local knowledge. Overnight stops include Kardamyli (Day 1) and Gytheio (Day 2), however this may change to meet any necessary revision.
Further information regarding the tour's itinerary will be shared upon request.

Meeting Location + Tour Duration

Meeting location: Pick up at Kalamata hotel, bus station or airport. Pick up from a different location can be arranged.
Flights to Kalamata operate seasonally from Athens and a few other European cities. A car transfer from Athens can also be arranged, if necessary. Buses run regularly between Athens and Kalamata at a cost of 20 EUR, each way.

End location: Back in Kalamata (airport, bus station or hotel). Arrangements can be made for drop off elsewhere.

Duration: 3 days

Comfortable, air-conditioned, 5-passenger Honda CR-V.
Days are balanced between time spent in the vehicle and time on our feet. Bikes are available upon request

What’s Included

Tour price includes my services as your guide (also, trip planner, and driver). The tour fee includes consultation, which will not only save you money, but, above all, allows you to stay in some wonderful places and have unforgettable meals. High standard, air-conditioned, vehicle, and all fuel expenses are included.

Estimated Local Cash Needed

20 EUR - Entrance fees to archaeological sites and museums of your choice (optional)

What’s Extra

Accommodations (2 nights). The reason this is not included is to allow for personal preferences and variables that make customizing possible. I make the arrangements for your preffered type of accommodations (I have many great recommendations in all price ranges). A price quote for the the "extra inclusions" is made available within 48 hours after a request is made. Prices start as low as 60 EUR per night, and depend on seasonality, preferred type of accommodations, and whether rooms are for single, double or triple use. This cost is paid directly to your hotels during the tour, not at the time of booking.

A Recent Review of this tour

We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our tour of the magnificent Mani! The area is among the most beautiful in Greece, the history is fascinating and we ate and lodged in wonderful style. Yorgos did an incredible job. He stayed engaged, interesting, cheerful and flexible for the entirety of our tour and we came to be very fond of him. We have relived numerous aspects of our adventure with great pleasure and would not hesitate one second to recommend both the area and our guide to any and all who ask.
