Charles Dickens to Virginia Woolf, all in an unspoiled area of quaint old London
London is rich in literary history, and this tour is one for the booklovers. Bloomsbury is a beautifully preserved quarter of Georgian London. We'll walk through its old Squares and see locations where famous artists lived, worked, attended literary soirees and began famous art movements. We'll see the old home of Charles Dickens, where he wrote some of his most famous works such as Oliver Twist, and visit many old London bookshops.
We'll see where Virginia Woolf and other members of The Bloomsbury Group lived and worked.
Other artists that feature on the tour include the Pre-Raphaelites, George Orwell, D. H. Lawrence, T. S. Eliot, Roger Fry and E. M. Forster.
We'll meet at your hotel, or other agreed location in London.
During the tour we'll visit:
- Bedford Square, 'London's most unspoiled Georgian square'
- Gower street, where the likes of Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin once lived
- Senate House, where George Orwell once worked and what inspired him to create 'The Ministry of Truth' in his novel, '1984'
- Russell Square
- Faber building, where T. S. Eliot worked
- Gordon Square, where many members of the Bloomsbury group, including Virginia Woolf, lived
- Marchmont Street, where Percy and Mary Shelley lived
At the end, we'll finish back at your hotel, or other agreed upon spot.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: I'll meet you at your hotel (or any other convenient location). We'll then make our way to Bloomsbury to begin the tour.
End location: The tour will end at the Dickens museum on Doughty street. There are nice locations around here for tea and lunch, or the guide can escort you back to your hotel (or anywhere else you'd like to go).

This tour usually takes less that 3 hours.
We'll take a traditional London Black Cab to Central London, from there the whole tour is walkable. We'll then go back to your hotel via Black Cab. So all necessities are included in the cost of this tour.
Local guide (and writer!), Black Cab rides to and from your accommodation is included in the cost of this tour, so every necessity is taken care of.

Any personal purchases or expenses such as extra refreshments or souvenirs. We pass a few places of interest during the tour but do not go inside any of them, you can pay admission fees and visit inside the site after the tour.
