An approach to Lisbon Jewish presence in a Private Tour in a Mercedes Benz
Until 1496 different peoples such as Christians, Moors and Jews were living together in the same city. But from that date onwards the Portuguese king Manuel I expelled all religious minorities that weren't willing to convert to Catholicism. Altough that decision changed the course of history, there are still vestiges of the jewish presence in Lisbon dating back from the 15th century. More recently, in the 20th century, Portugal played a fundamental role when the Jewish fled to the USA during World War 2.
Did you know that the Jewish people until the 15th century had their own district where they could freely practice their religion?
In the second part we will visit Lisbon most important monuments.
This tour will make you understand the Jewish presence in Lisbon, while visiting the city.

Jose' was an excellent guide and we couldn't have been happier with the day we spent in Lisbon with him. He was knowledgeable and easy to understand. He personalized the tour to our requests and made us feel right at home in Lisbon. I would highly recommend both ToursbyLocals and Jose' to anyone who asks.
