Chiado and Upper Quarter Districts
Start the tour at the downtown area, proceed to the upper quarter district taking the funicular from the 19th century up the Hill. Admire the view from the belvedere são Pedro de Alcântara. The upper quarter is the first example of geometric urbanization of the city. It is a very picturesque district and very famous for the night life activity. Visit of the church of São Roque ( closed on mondays), built in the 16th century with amazing tile and gilded carved wood decoration.
Walk down to Chiado, still today one of the most elegant areas of Lisbon. Admire some of the most ancient stores, coffee shops and Theatres. See the ruins of the Carmelite convent, damaged by the earthquake of 1755 and admire the view from the top of Santa Justa Lift.
