Lake Victoria - Around the Source of the Nile
Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa as well as the source to Africa's longest River Nile. Kenya shares a fraction of the lake with Tanzania and Uganda. Western Kenya, majorly the area around the Lake, is one of the most fertile areas in Kenya as well as most green through the year.
Ruma National park is the only park in the region and it is known for its black rhinos, roan antelopes and giraffes.
Mfangano and Rusinga Islands are two of seven Islands that form Suba district which is inhabited by the Abasuba people who are Bantus who migrated from Uganda. Suba land is extremely beautiful with rocky outcrops in the lake and tropical forests, which the people still use to-date for their traditional rituals and ceremonies.
On Mfangano Island, one can visit some of these sites at Mawanga, accessible via boat from Governor's lodge and as well hike to the sacred forest at Kwitone. Besides that, a visit to bird's islands is worthwhile not forgetting beach sun-downers.
