A Lake District Tour from Windermere
A selection of my favourite views linked by a scenic tour through the Lake District of William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Reach the views that inspired past writers and artists - after all it was their words and images that made the Lake District a must see destination!
Windermere lake view
Great Langdale Pass
Hill Top - entry to garden only
Claife Heights viewing station
Ferry across Windermere
Whether you are in search of spectacular landscapes or a stunning backdrop to a family photo this Windermere tour has you in mind. I have collected not only my favourite views but those that inspired the very first Guidebook to the Lakes into a stunning tour for 2016. The Lake District of William Wordsworth is linked with the Lake District of Beatrix Potter via inspirational viewpoints and some of the prettiest villages for a great day out.
On this tour from Windermere you will appreciate that great views can be seen from the roadside, but truly stunning views that make you stop and exclaim 'wow!' require a little effort.
Early explorers in the Lake District followed guidebooks that identified viewing stations where truly 'wow!' views were found that showed the Lake District at its most picturesque. The finale of our tour is a visit to the recently restored Claife Station above Windermere before taking the ferry across the lake in the footsteps of those early pioneers of Lakeland tourism.
