Discover the most beautiful medieval towns of Catalonia in la Garrotxa volcanic zone

This is a day tour that will bring you to La Garrotxa, one of the most iconic areas of Catalonia. La Garrotxa county is the best example of volcanic terrain on the Iberian Peninsula. It has 40 volcanic cones and more than 20 lava flows, that shaped the landscapes and created beautiful forests. La Garrotxa has the bigest concentration of medieval villages of the whole country.

We will start the day visiting Castellfollit de la Roca an impressive medieval town hanging on a cliff top.
We will continue with a soft hike (suitable for everyone) from Sant Joan les Fonts where we will walk through lava flows and singular landscapes. You can choose between easy or intermediate hike (if don't want to hike at all, we can visit an extra medieval town). After this pleasant hike we will enjoy a well deserved 3-course Catalan lunch in a traditional restaurant.
After lunch we will visit the well-preserved medieval town of Besalú.

Itinerary

After about one and a half hour drive on a AC Minivan, we will arrive at La Garrotxa county.

We will start the day with a soft walk and a visit to Castellfollit de la Roca, one of the most scenic medieval villages in Catalonia dramatically perched atop a cliffside at the meeting point of two rivers.

We will continue to Sant Joan les Fonts where we will visit the romanesque church and medieval bridge from XII century and will do a hike (suitable for everyone. If you don't want to hike we can visit an extra town) across some paths following 3 lava flows that have shaped the lanscapes of this region. Here we'll learn about the rural way of life of La Garrotxa. The area is simply beautiful and will put you in a zen-like mood.
After this pleasant hike we will enjoy a well deserved 3-course Catalan lunch in a traditional restaurant.
After lunch we will visit the well-preserved medieval town of Besalú, where I'll show you the most unique spots of this beautiful medieval town; an authentic trip back in time.
