Starting from Matsusaka Station
There is a place in Matsusaka* where you can put on a kimono in 5-10 minutes!! The fabric used for this kimono is called Matsusaka-momen, a blue stripe-patterned cotton in a sedate color**, making ladies even more prettier and turning gents into handsome samurais!
After wearing a kimono, we will stroll around the little town of Matsusaka and experience weaving a local textile.
If you are interested in trying out Matsusaka beef (a premium beef that ranks with Kobe beef), I can also reserve a sukiyaki restaurant for lunch (not included in the tour price).
*Matsusaka City is about 80 minutes away from Nagoya and 2 hours from Osaka by express train.
**The kimono you will be wearing is a casual cotton kimono. Colorful kimonos are not available in this tour.
**Prior to booking, please message me of your height and size to check the availability of the rental kimono.
- Meet at Matsusaka Station and walk to the kimono shop (5-10 min)
- Wear Kimono
- Stroll around town, experience Matsusaka Cotton weaving, and walk to samurai house area. Samurai house will be alternated to an old merchant's house on Mondays.
I can take you to a sukiyaki restaurant or sushi shop by request. Please pay for your own lunch as it is not included in the tour price. High class sukiyaki restaurant ranges from 10000-20000JPY. Sushi lunch is about 1500-2000JPY.
Kimono may be quite hot to wear during summertime. If you feel that the kimono is too warm, you can wear it and take it off whenever you want to. During winter, you can wear it over your clothes so it'd be less of a problem.
Meeting Point + Tour Duration
Meeting Point Options: Suggested by Guide: Matsusaka Station South Exit, in front of a bakery called Vie de France
Duration: 3 hours
The tour may be longer or shorter depending on how you do during the weaving session
Walking tour around the town (about 2km in total). The route is flat and easy, but some people might find it not too comfortable walking in a kimono-sandal!
Estimated Local Cash Needed
2000 JPY - Depends on what we have for lunch, but 2000JPY per person for lunch would be enough for a decent meal.
I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

It was a great experience! I loved spending time with Kumi, we had a great lunch and great fun together. A very interesting couple of hours with the kimono shop owner, the weaving center and sushi shop. The indigo kimono was so nice to wear during the hot season. A must to do in Mie.
