In depth exploration of summit and flank areas of Kilauea volcano inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
This is the deluxe version of our 3-hr private tour, including the highlight summit locations of the volcano as well as more 'off the beaten' path locations on the Chain of Craters road. This road leads all the way to the ocean and coastal areas of the volcano and includes stops in the volcanic terrains of the upper East Rift Zone. This option does require more walking but allows us to get further out into the field far from the buses and large crowds. I posses special use permits, authorized by Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, to take guests into areas of the volcano that few get to see. Accessible areas are subject to closure due to eruption activity or National Park closures.
Volcano House hotel is where we meet and start the tour with a general introduction to Hawaii's geology and current eruption conditions. Walks to the steam vents and sulphur banks. Kilauea Iki overlook. Thurston Lava Tube. Devastation trail. Then we begin our journey towards the ocean as we transition from the native rainforests to the volcanic landscapes of the National Park. Discover unique rock formations, isolated eruption areas and learn of the history of the volcano from both the scientific and cultural perspectives.

Our tour with Erik was amazing. He was so knowledgeable, friendly and interesting. Our 14 and 17 year old boys really enjoyed it too. We learned so much about the science involved in the volcano and lava formation, as well as about local culture. He is such a nice, interesting and fun person to spend the day with, and we felt like we had the park to ourselves on his tour. Can't recommend enough!
