Private Walking Tour through Lisbon's Jewish Heritage
We'll start where everything started: where the first Jews arrived in Lisbon. I'll tell you when, how and who.
Their role, their expetactions, their heritage.
It won't be easy because most of the physical structures are gone but following my descriptions and using your imagination, you'll be able to recreate everything on your mind. It's a fantastic way to combine the Jewish Heritage of Lisbon and its historical and modern background as a city. Very helpful to orient you during your stay!
The language, the culture, the food. . . there is still so much in common!
From the Crypto-Jews, the WWII period and the present Jewish families still living in Portugal; it's amazing how strong the influence is still.
Visiting both Synagogue and cemetery require a month advance notice, sent directly to the Synagogue and are only allowed from Monday to Thursday. Please contact me for further information.
Note: We can always try to adjust the starting time.
Over the course of 3 and a half hours we will walk through the most important sections of Lisbon connected to the Jewish History: Baixa, Bairro Alto, Alfama.
