A full day tour of Richmond, Bonorong & Mt Wellington with entry fees included.
Ideal for first time visitors to Tasmania and as a Cruise Ship Shore Excursion - a day to hear about Tasmania's history, wildlife and natural environment.
~ I'll introduce you to how and why Hobart was settled in the early 1800's; and by whom, including my ancestors who were amongst the first and early settlers to arrive in Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania)
~ Gain an insight into convicts and early settlers as I take you on a guided walking tour around the historic village of Richmond and Australia's oldest convict built structures (some are still in use today for their original purpose)
~ Learn about Australian native animals including Tasmania's unique wildlife at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (including the Tasmanian Devil and my all-time favourite Wombats)
~ Enjoy panoramic views from the summit of Mt Wellington (conditions permitting); in the foothills of the mountain, stroll through a cool climate rainforest
~ See Battery Point and Salamanca precinct before returning to your hotel or cruise ship.
The route is reasonably flexible to ensure the best possible experience on the day.
~ Travel along the Derwent River to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to meet Tasmania's characterful native animals, including Tasmanian Devils. Learn about the incredible work of a dedicated team of wildlife keepers and volunteer wildlife carers through stories of endurance and survival of injured and orphaned native wildlife.
~ Take in the scenery of rolling hills of the Coal River Valley en route to Richmond Village; a village steeped in history and known for its elegant Georgian architecture and heritage buildings dating back to the 1820's. Step back in time on a guided walk around Australia's oldest convict built structures.
~ Travel to the summit of Mt Wellington through forests and windswept alpine habitat. As time permits, a short walk in a rainforest. Or you may visit Cascade Female Factory (additional cost applies) to learn about about female convicts.
~ Return to your hotel or ship via Battery Point and Salamanca
