The Roman summer retreat
Less famous than Pompeii, Herculaneum is the second most important Roma town destroyed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A. D. 79. Even if is smaller is better preserved than Pompeii and it can be considered an Ancient site with the best example of Roman mosaics. Part of the town is still underground and day by day it's reveiling her tresures.
The tour starts with the visit of the Ancient shore of Herculaneum. This is the place where you'll see the skeletons of the victims of the eruption. The tour continues visiting the private houses, the Thermopolia (small fast food), the stores, and bakeries for discovering how people lived 2000 years ago. Telling you about its history and its evolution I will show you the traces of its opulence.

Ilaria was very accommodating even though we arrived late, she gave us as much time as she could even though she didn't need to. My family learned a great deal about Herculaneum and it showed that Ilaria was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the site. If you don't have hours to walk around Pompeii this was a great place to visit and I highly recommend a guide (like Ilaria) to get the full experience.
