Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, Juktas Mountain and Archanes with a Private Guide
We will start our day visiting the biggest Archaeological collection of artifacts on Crete. We will explore the pre-Greek and Greek art focusing on the Minoan period and going deeper into its significance and development through time.
The visit to one of the most sacred hills on Crete follows. The hill of Juktas, the death place and rebirth place of the most important God of historic Crete, Zeus and a major worshiping center for the worship of the prehistoric "Great Mother" Goddess.
From its plethora of unique sites located there, we are visiting Vathipetro prehistoric industrial area where the oldest European winery and olive oil press were excavated and Juktas Peak sanctuary, the biggest open air sanctuary of the hill. The view from Juktas is really breathtaking!
The beautiful small town of Archanes, located on the foot of Juktas Hill with its unique Venetian and Neoclassical buildings is a place you should not miss visiting. Lunch in one of Archanes local Restaurants is highly recommended.
