Stroll through some of Portland's prettiest and most elaborate gardens and grounds

Portland may be the city of roses but our gardens bloom all year round.

Sweeping vistas from atop Washington Park reveal the beautiful and pointed Mt. Hood while just behind you sits the calm and serene Portland Japanese Gardens. Steeped in tradition the grounds lead you from place to place with intention, allowing you to pause and take in the beauty. Similarly, the Lan Su Chinese Garden, nestled in the heart of Old Chinatown, displays ornate statues and sweeping grounds of east Asian culture.

Across town, but still well within city limits, the 62-acre Grotto dazzles with a series of gardens dedicated to Mary and the Catholic church. But you don't have to be religious to enjoy walking through vast gardens that change with the seasons and often involve elaborate decorations at holidays, such as the Christmas seasons Festival of Lights.

In between you can catch your breath and experience lunch like a true Portlander would, at one of our open air food cart pods. Don't worry they also have heated tents!

Itinerary

This tour begins at either the Lan Su Chinese Gardens in Old Town or the Portland Japanese Garden in the west hills. Afterwards we can stroll through the North Park Blocks in between two iconic downtown neighborhoods, Old Town and the Pearl, if we've gone to Lan Su or through the roses and trees of Washington Park if we've visited the Japanese Garden. On a clear day you can also experience a great view of Mt Hood and the valley below from here.

Then we head to one of Portland's famous food cart pods. Both in Northeast, Piedmont Station and Rose City Food Park feature over a dozen separate tastes to choose from, so mix and match if you like before heading to a bench or one of the covered and heated areas if it is cold or rainy.

After lunch we drive to The Grotto, an internationally-renowned Catholic shrine and botanical garden on a breathtaking 62-acre green space in the heart of the east side. Two levels feature several gardens including Peace Garden, the Labyrinth, the Grotto, and St Anne's Chapel.
