Wine & Armagnac Pleasure Trip
The Gers départment is the secret of Gascony, a hidden treasure located in the heart of the SW French countryside. . . . but, not for long. This is the perfect tour for someone who wants to experience a taste of what is fast becoming the new Bordeaux, as noted recently by Condé Nast Magazine and The New York Times. There are some unique medieval bastides (fortified villages) which we will visit during the tour , such as Fourcès, one of the few bastides laid out in the shape of a circle and Larresingle, the smallest medieval village in France. In between visiting these utterly charming villages one can stop for a glass of wine or a shot of Armagnac every fifteen minutes. We will pay particular attention to the wines of Pellehaut and Villa Dria and the Armagnac of Chateau Cassaigne and Monluc. Of course, you will also delight in the local cuisine noted for its rustic farm to table authenticity at either the Auberge de Larresingle or the Côte Bistro, Michelin starred and worth the trip alone.
I will pick you up at our agreed upon place and time. We will then drive to Fourcès, the round medieval village, walk through the arcade, stoppiong at the various shops and have coffee or tea at a local café. I will then drive you to Larresingle, the smallest fortified, hilltop village in France. We will cross over the drawbridge and tour this charming village. Down the hill is the Auberge of Larresingle where will dine. Lunch usually lasts a good 2 hours. The Auberge offers excellent local cuisine. After lunch we will drive to Chateau de Cassaigne for a tour and Tasting, followed by another tour and tasting of your choice made from a selection I will offer. If you're still interested in seeing more and tasting more I will take you to Chateau Monluc or Chateau de Busca Maniban for another tour and tasting, then return you to your hotel or a convenient location of your choice.
