I will first take you on a tour of the port hills above Christchurch, to see the original flora, of this area. This area has great views of Lyttleton harbour and the Canterbury plains and offers opportunities for a short walk along the Crater rim walkway. We then head back to town, via the seaside suburb, of Sumner, to a nice cafe for lunch. After lunch, we will see the gardens of Mona Vale, Riccarton Bush, Botanic Gardens, plus tour the streets of Christchurch's garden competition.
I start the days tour with a short drive around the inner city, pointing out examples of the city's English heritage. We then travel to Monavale, and walk through its carefully tended English garden overlooking the Avon river. After a short detour through Royds Street, past winner of street garden competitions, we visit the first house built in Canterbury and take in a walk through the only remaining stand of native Kahikatea bush in Canterbury.
I will discuss lunch options with you beforehand as booking may be required.
After lunch we visit Broadfield Garden, a unique 3. 5 hectare 20 year old garden featuring NZ natives including a kauri forest and and NZ raised shrubs and flowers in themed gardens. An alternative in summer is Ohinetahi, a formal terraced garden near historical Lyttleton.
This tour is listed as light activity, but I can tailor the tour to suit.
